CAIRN TERRIER:

The Cairn Terrier is a terrier breed originating in the Scottish Highlands and recognized as one of Scotland’s earliest working dogs The name “Cairn Terrier” was a compromise suggestion when the breed was brought to official shows in the United Kingdom in 1909, initially under the name “Short-haired Skye terrier”. This name was not accepted by The Kennel Club when faced with opposition from breeders of the Skye Terrier. The alternative name Cairn Terrier was adopted.

Cairn terriers originated in the Scottish Highlands and the Isle of Skye, initially grouped in the “Skye Terrier” class alongside the Scottish and West Highland White Terriers. From the early 1900s, the three were bred separately. The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom gave the Cairn Terrier a separate register in 1912; the first year of recognition, 134 were registered, and the breed was given Championship status.

CAIRN TERRIER PUPPIES:

Cairns are small enough for a lap-top snuggle and sturdy enough for a good romp on the lawn. They do best with lots of close family contact. For owners who cherish the terrier qualities of gameness, independent thinking, and true-blue loyalty, no other breed will do.

CAIRN TERRIER PERSONALITY:

Cairn terriers are considered shrewdly, faithful family pets that adjust to most situations. They are true terriers, however, and consequently extremely active dogs. Some may be prone to excessive barking and others can be diggers. This is not a dog for someone who wants a quiet lap dog.

CAIRN TERRIER MIX:

Shaggy, spirited, and somewhat scrappy, the Cairn Terrier is one of the earliest Scottish dog breeds ever to exist. Out and out lovable, this enthusiastic and adoring pooch makes a phenomenal family pet for each family. Weighing in at only seven to 10 pounds, this pint-sized pup has tons of personality and is a natural people pleaser. When intentionally bred with other purebred dogs, Cairn Terrier hybrids can possess the best traits of each breed.

CAIRN TERRIER CHIHUAHUA MIX:

The Chihuahua Cairn Terrier Blend is an unordinary and uncommon breed made by blending the Scottish Cairn Terrier and the Mexican Chihuahua. WHITE CAIRN TERRIER:

Having been first bred in Scotland in the early 1700 makes the West Highland White Terrier a rather old breed. It was originally descended from the most common dog in Scotland at the time, a short-legged, wiry coated little highland terrier that may have been the root of several other terriers, including the Scottish, Skye, Cairn, and Dandie Dinmont terriers. The little dog came in several colors, though most people of the day preferred the dark ones. 

Dog show classes for the terriers described as “white” were held as early as 1896, but the 20th edition of the AKC’s The Complete Dog Book indicates that under its modern name, the West Highland White Terrier was first exhibited at the 1904 Scottish Kennel Club,  As far as we know, “West Highland White Terrier” as a breed name first appeared in L.C.R. Cameron’s  Otters and Otter Hunting published in 1908. Interestingly, when the breed was first shown in the United States in 1906,

it was still as the Roseneath Terrier, and initial AKC registrations fell under that name. The first of the breed to be registered (not shown, but registered) as West Highland White Terrier by the AKC was a bitch whelped in England in 1906 named “Sky Lady.”
